LibGC?

I want to install inkscape on my comp, and when I try to build it, it complains that it can't find libgc (Boehm's garbage collector).

So I go off to the gc site, download the program, and start compiling. I successfully did ./configure, make, make check, and make install, but then I don't know what to do. The instructions say 'Link against /lib/libgc.a or /lib/libgc.so.' but I have no idea what that means.

I'm using Mandriva 10.1.

I'd really appreciate it if anyone could help me on this! Thanks in advance.
