linux backtrack 4.. cannot connect to the internet through the ethernet port?

i have a cat 5 plugged into my router and to my computer and i have 600 RX and TX bytes and 16 RX and TX packets, but using wicd manager i cannot connect to the wired network, i have started the network in services but it still doesnt work... HELP
