Answers: network administrator and IT jobs ?

Thank author of this post/commentI'm getting very interested in seeking a new career that I would actually enjoy. Hoping people could give me suggestions on there experience with IT jobs? I have many years of work experience in different fields. Closest to doing anything with computers though was a tech support in a call support center for cable internet. I'm pretty good with computers, I build at least one every year for myself and once started studding for the A+ exam but then events in life kinda ended it. What would it take for me to get my foot in the door somewhere in the field of IT , such as I am thinking about network administrator or something around that. I have a college associates degree, if I would take some IT certifications would that help me with some kind of entry level position ? What would be a good target to aim for ? such as linux, network, unix, security, cisco , ect. ? Any advice as to how i should approach getting education I would need and the good fields in IT to shoot for at an entry level person ? thanks

Thank author of this post/comment"There is no simple answer for you."

Its good to know you are interested in IT field, but there is a hiccup, the field is vast. Actually it has evolved into many different fields within IT field. You must first choose what side of IT field you are really interested in. for example Networking, Programming, Administrating.

Another problem is that all the fields in IT are blurred, and most of the employers expects IT-guy to be master of all. This makes IT field very competitive.

Anyway you have to pick your side of interest.

If you want to become Netwrok guru, go for CISCO certifications, nothing beats them and once you are certified, it's fairly easy to get decent job.

for Programming, oh boy! here you enter into whole new world. Too many programming languages out there, pick yours. web programming, system programming, application programming. Honestly I don't think you want to become a programmer.

The easy way is administration(mostly server administration). Get some basic certifications LINUX(Red Hat) or Microsoft's.Personally, I think for a person to get started with IT field , he or she must start from here.
